A couple weeks ago, I listened to Jess C. Lively’s Lively Show episode with Hal Elrod. You should take a listen for yourself. One of the lessons that really stuck with me was the five minute rule. It’s simple: when something upsets or angers you, you get five minutes. You can feel that emotion as intensely as you want to, and when your five minutes are up, you have to move on. Holding on to negative feelings can impact your health and your life. By applying the five minute rule, you can allow yourself to still acknowledge and experience these feelings without punishing yourself for reacting this way. It’s not easy to implement in your life, and I’ll admit that there are times when I’ve completely forgot/disregarded it, but I was reminded of the rule today, and I am going to make a conscious effort to react this way moving forward.
Try it. Let us know how it works for you!
