Ah, the Maldives. We’re still on a high from this trip and can’t wait to go back. It’s one of the most beautiful places on Earth, and may be disappearing, so get there soon! These islands are home to some of the most luxurious resorts in the world, and a playground for those with money to blow.

We researched hotels extensively because we were spending a small fortune on our honeymoon and wanted it to be perfect. We were all set up to stay at Velassaru, and at the last minute, discovered Six Senses Laamu. If we’re being 100% honest, there were two things that sold us on this place (and caused us to give up our pool villa at Velassaru), the first being the BATHTUB and the second being the board [all inclusive] options that we missed when we booked our Velassaru stay and were no longer available. The board ended up being a godsend and I am so grateful we chose to pre-pay for two of our daily meals. WHEN we go back to the Maldives (speaking it into existence here folks), hopefully sooner than later, I’m hoping we stay at one of these resorts:

I’d go back to Six Senses in a heartbeat, but these were other top contenders. Some [rich] people island hop and break up their vacations on different islands. If you’re planning a trip to the Maldives, we highly suggest doing your research before committing to a resort, and possibly even before you book a plane ticket so you know what to expect. Most decent hotels are starting at $500/night.

There are two additional things you must know if you’re planning a trip there (1) all the resorts are on their own islands so you will have to pay for additional plane tickets to the island (or boat rides, depending on how close your place is to Male) and (2) all liquor is imported so drinks are CRAZY expensive so mentally prepare for that. Actually, almost everything is imported, so be prepared for pretty outrageous prices for anything you want to consume.

Did we miss any hotels? Which is your favorite?
